Teaching Evaluation Readiness Assessment

Michael’s Recommendation

The Teaching Evaluation Readiness Assessment (TERA) nicely complements the frameworks shared in this collection. The survey is designed to help faculty determine their readiness for the changes that would come from adopting a framework. The instrument is on page 5 of the article, and the authors recommend using the following scale: strongly disagree, disagree, slightly disagree, slightly agree, agree, and strongly agree. The "change" mentioned in the questions needs to be well-defined.

We designed the TERA to assess readiness for teaching evaluation reform by measuring faculty thinking about components of readiness for change. We aimed for the TERA to be useful for both departments and researchers, providing an assessment of readiness among faculty. For researchers, we also intended for the survey to distinguish between departments with more and less readiness for changes to teaching evaluation practices and to be capable of detecting shifts in readiness over time.
